Sustainability at the University of Maryland

University of Maryland's Green (Greek) Chapters Program

Five chapters are helping develop the Green Chapter Program during the spring 2012 semester. We hope to pilot the Green Chapter Program in fall 2012.

The Green Chapter Program engages students living in fraternity and sorority houses on and off campus in a voluntary, self-guided initiative that promotes best environmental practices at the University of Maryland. The program supports and promotes Greek chapters that are taking steps toward reducing their environmental footprint. A series of checklists and tools will guide chapters through three levels of certification. The program operates through a network of Green Chapter representatives (GC Reps) in chapter houses recognized by the University of Maryland. The program is led by the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life (DFSL) with support from the Office of Sustainability (OS).
