In the spring of 2011, an Advisory Committee was formed to develop a Green Office program for the University of Maryland. This committee met regularly to develop the program content, structure and scope. They reviewed green office programs from other campuses and provided the guidance required to develop a program that was by Maryland and for Maryland.

A Green Office Pilot Program was conducted during the summer of 2011. Due to overwhelming demand and interest in the program, we had the participation of 16 offices. A pilot program is often, by its nature, not a smooth process. We are learning by doing for the first time, and taking those lessons to modify and adapt the program.
The Office of Sustainability would like to thank all of the pilot program GO Reps and the 288 staff in 16 different offices, listed below, for being patient as we learned, being open to our requests and for providing indispensable feedback on the scope and structure of the program.
