Description: A Research Intern is needed to aid the University of Maryland Extension in evaluating options for developing a Rain Barrel Installation Program in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Responsibilities will include contacting local government officials to assess current rules and potential funding sources; contacting local businesses and nonprofit organizations about potential partnerships; conducting market research by talking with/surveying local residents; providing research support (reviewing on-line sources and conducting interviews); developing a rain barrel demonstration project at the Sheridan Street Community Garden; and writing a final report on the feasibility of developing a rain barrel installation program. Additionally, the intern could explore developing small-scale composting program.
The intern will work 10 hours per week throughout the fall semester. The worksite will be the Center for Educational Partnership, located 5 miles east of campus and accessible by the Shuttle UM – New Carrollton Route.
Qualifications: The Rain Barrel Program Research Intern must be well organized and self-directed. The intern will be able to break a complex job down into manageable pieces in order to facilitate information collection, and the intern should also be able to write a succinct report about a technical topic for diverse audience. Must have own laptop.
