Thu, Aug 19, 2021, 10:00 AM – Sat, Aug 21, 2021, 6:00 PM EDT
The 7th UMD Symposium on Environmental Justice & Health Disparities (#UMDejsymposium2021) will convene numerous community members, nonprofit organizers, and researchers for an in-depth examination of ongoing environmental justice and health disparity issues affecting the DC-Maryland-Virginia region.
This year's symposium will reprise many of the hallmark topics discussed in previous years (e.g., food sovereignty, climate justice, community organizing, energy equity, law and policy, and others) in addition to new focuses on Gender and Reproductive Justice, Indigenous Human Rights, Health Disparities in the Prison System, and more! Find more information on the CEEJH website: http://ceejhlab.org.
Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, & Health (CEEJH) is the organizer of 7th Annual UMD Environmental Justice and Health Disparities Symposium. CEEJH advances environmental justice by developing community-university partnerships, using the community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, community-owned and managed research (COMR) principles, the Science Inpowerment Model and the Collaborative-Problem Solving Model (CPSM) with a focus on equitable planning, healthy zoning, and sustainable community development. We train residents impacted by local unwanted land uses (LULUs); air, water, and soil pollution; and other environmental hazards to become citizen scientists using these community-based frameworks.
