The University of Maryland has earned climate leadership Marks of Distinction from the non-profit organization, Second Nature for performance and leadership as a part of the Climate Leadership Network.
Marks of Distinction is a new initiative for the Climate Leadership Network that recognizes a select group of signatories that set high-performance goals, demonstrate and report measurable progress towards those goals and support Network activities.
The University of Maryland was recognized for achievements in the categories of Carbon Reduction (a 25% percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions); On Track (matching Climate Action Plan targets); and We Are Still In participant.
"The Marks of Distinction initiative is designed to recognize exemplary performance by institutions leading on climate action," said Tim Carter, President, Second Nature. "The University of Maryland is doing just that by reducing their carbon emissions by 25%, participating in the We Are Still In coalition and active participation in the Climate Leadership Network through developing and sharing resources that benefit the higher ed community more broadly.”
