Stamp Composting

Recipient:

Adele H. Stamp Student Union

Amount:

$32,950

The goal of this program - a collaboration between Stamp, Facilities Management Solid Waste and Recycling, Dining Services Sustainability, and the Office of Sustaintability - was to make the Adele H. Stamp Student Union a zero-waste operation by enhancing the building’s compost system and introducing front-of-house compost collection bins. 35 compost toters were purchased to transport communication to a compacter; 10 new trash/recycling bins were added. The compactor was installed and ready for the first day of classes in Fall 2012. A student peer education program was introduced to help people sort their waste at the new bins. Green and blue bin liners have been purchased and are now being used to differentiate compost and recycling from trash. The program has been included in an educational videoabout campus sustainability. The first self-audit of the program was conducted in Spring 2013.
