Our global fight against the climate crisis is far from over. The University of Maryland will accelerate its goal to become a net carbon-neutral campus by 2025. It is my hope that these measures will help inspire every one of us to commit to the reduction of our greenhouse gas emissions for our planet and for our people.

Alumni Spotlight: Michael Lagua

Michael Lagua ‘13 always wanted to work for a mission-driven organization, which is why he felt drawn to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. “I really like how nonprofits are mission driven organizations,” he says. “It was mostly about finding a place that aligned with my ethics. Just being around that work environment is really cool.”

Sipping on Sustainability: Maryland Dairy Pilots Compostable Straws

There’s no need to “refuse the straw” at the University of Maryland Dairy due to the introduction of compostable paper straws. Lori Dominick, General Manager, Dining Services Food Court has decided to pilot the use of paper straws in place of plastic straws at the Maryland Dairy in the month of April.

UMD increases renewable energy use with installation of solar panel canopies

The University of Maryland, in partnership with WGL Energy and the Maryland Energy Administration, recently completed the installation of three solar panel canopies at the Regents Drive, Terrapin Trail, and Mowatt Lane parking garages.
