MacKenzie Guthrie

Green Office Intern

mlguth23@umd.edu (301) 405- 3981

MacKenzie L. Guthrie became passionate about sustainability and the environment after spending a year serving with AmeriCorps in Five Rivers MetroParks in Dayton, Ohio. There, she helped Montgomery County schools embrace their green spaces as educational opportunities, engaged communities in community gardening initiatives, and worked with parks employees and volunteers to grow food in Possum Creek MetroPark’s demonstration garden to donate to the local nonprofit food rescue, Access to Excess. As the Green Office intern in the Office of Sustainability, she is excited to help other offices on campus become more sustainable and create a campus-wide culture of sustainability. She graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio with a B.A. in English literature and Spanish and a certificate in TESOL in 2019. Now, as an English literature M.A. student MacKenzie works to blend her passion for postcolonial literature with her passion for the environment, examining the interconnections between identity and place with a focus on practical applications in social and environmental activism. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, hiking, and gardening.
