Green Terp Bucket List Challenge

Home Green Terp Bucket List Challenge

Be a Green Terp - Explore, Engage, and Earn Badges for Taking Part in Sustainability at UMD

Whether you're already connected to sustainability on campus or just getting started, every student can be a Green Terp. Being a Green Terp means you're part of a community dedicated to creating a more sustainable future at UMD through individual action, community building, research, and more.

How it works

The Bucket List is divided into four sections that can be completed in any order: Campus Locations, Campus Events, Climate Anxiety & Wellness, and Individual Challenges. Each section corresponds to a pin that can be earned by completing the five challenges in each section. Once you complete a section, pick up your pin by finding the Office of Sustainability at an event. To find out where we'll be tabling, you can follow @greenterp on Instagram.

After you complete the entire bucket list, you'll earn a green sustainability cord to wear at graduation!

Please note: This challenge is for undergraduate students only. By participating in the bucket list challenge and uploading images of yourself, you agree that the Office of Sustainability can use these images for marketing purposes. For any accessibility accommodations or questions, please contact spage2@umd.edu

The Green Terp Bucket List was inspired by the M Book Challenge which is a great way to learn about and participate in Terp traditions.

Do I have to complete the entire bucket list?

To earn a sustainability cord, you must complete the entire bucket list challenge. If you are only looking to gain specific pins, you only have to complete the five challenges under each pin category.

Do I have to complete the bucket list in order?

No, you do not have to complete the bucket list in order. You can skip around and complete challenges that are most accessible to you. However, in order to earn a certain pin, all five challenges in that individual category must be completed.

I see that I have to enroll in a course on Canvas? Does this count as a grade or class?

The Green Terp Bucket List Challenge lives on ELMS-Canvas.

Here's how it works:

  1. Enroll in the Canvas course through Open Learning.
  2. Complete the challenges in the modules.
  3. Submit a photo or text to get credit.

Your score is for tracking only. This is not an academic course, therefore, your GPA or academic transcript will not be affected. We use Canvas simply because it's the easiest platform for students to navigate.

Where can I find a full list of the bucket list challenges and descriptions?

Is there a deadline to complete the challenge?

No, the Green Terp Bucket List Challenge can be done throughout your time at UMD. The challenge was designed to be easy and accessible, so you may even be able to complete it in a semester!

I completed all the challenges in a category! Where can I pick up my pin?

Pins can be picked up at Office of Sustainability events around campus. Be sure to follow @greenterp on Instagram to stay in the loop of what events we will be at.
