Maryland Environmental Service Lauds UMD for Sustainability Work

The Maryland Environmental Service (MES) yesterday recognized the University of Maryland’s efforts to reduce waste, save energy and create a smaller carbon footprint with its Environmental Excellence-Sustainability Award.

It was one of seven Environmental Business Leadership Awards given to institutions, businesses and individuals that the agency said consistently demonstrate strong leadership and commitment to strengthening and preserving Maryland’s environment.

“These awardees exemplify how being good stewards of the environment is good for business,” said Roy McGrath, MES CEO and chairman.

MES is an independent, not-for-profit state agency that manages more than 1,000 environmental projects throughout Maryland.

Other award winners included LifeBridge Health, Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Maryland Public Television.
