  • Maryland Environmental Service Lauds UMD for Sustainability Work

    The Maryland Environmental Service (MES) yesterday recognized the University of Maryland’s efforts to reduce waste, save energy and create a smaller carbon footprint with its Environmental Excellence-Sustainability Award. It was one of seven Environmental Business Leadership Awards given to institutions, businesses and individuals that the agency said consistently demonstrate strong leadership and commitment to strengthening and preserving Maryland’s environment.

    The Environmental Finance Center and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay recently released Financing Urban Tree Canopy Programs: Guidebook for Local Governments in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.   The guidebook features stories from cities and towns across the Watershed that are implementing cost-saving ideas and revenue-generating approaches to foster thriving community forests.   Read More

  • H. J. Patterson Hall: Where global collaborations happen

    The University of Maryland celebrated the 2018-19 academic year as the ”Year of Immigration.” The theme resonated across the university through the first year book, The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen, and through campus programming and events. During this time, H.J. Patterson’s Global Crossroads Atrium served as the hub for the international and environmental communities at the university.
